We Are Nature: How Seasonal Shifts Show Up in Your Pulse

Spring is stirring, dear friends! In addition to the longer days and first blooms, in clinic we are even starting to notice it in the wrists of our patients.

Yes, in their pulses!

Did you know that our pulses change with the seasons?

In Winter, they go deep in the wrist and feel firm like a stone. We sometimes have to go digging with our fingertips to find them.

In Spring, like bulbs pushing up shoots, the pulses rise to mid-level and have a wiry quality.

Come Summer, our pulses become superficial and feel overflowing, just like our joy that it’s no longer gray and raining!

Lastly, in Fall our pulses remain on the surface of the wrist, but they become thin and fine like a hair – meaning some of our energy is going deeper in preparation for winter – but it hasn’t fully let go and dropped.

When we listen to your pulses, we take account what’s normal for the season and consider this in your treatment.

Pulses are an inspiring reminder that, despite our busy lives, our technology, our separation from outdoors, we are inevitably part of nature. Give it a try and see if your own pulse feels in tune with the season.
